PAF to Legacy.....gettin it done!!

Since my post on February 10th I purchased the Legacy 8.0, well..... for the real reasons that my mom has been wanting the program for awhile and since my dad is now terminally ill. My mom and I both felt that Legacy 8.0 would be a good program to switch my dad's Personal Ancestral File 5.0 over to.

I have already imported his PAF and now looking at all the work he still has to do which to explain how much is........ A LOT.

One thing I did see that didn't get carried over to Legacy were my dad's PAF notes he had on family individuals. Maybe I didn't see the button, "Carry the notes over" or just plain didn't know. It's no bigeeee I can input what my dad wrote maybe do a 'copy & paste' thingy. I'm still getting familiar with Legacy so far I'm pretty happy with it.

I also bought a 1tb portable external hard drive to use for backups. I'm now looking over the pedigree and going to start taking family by family of what still needs to be done.

Whew! Lots of work ahead of me, but its okay. I know that my dad wouldn't want me to sit on this he'd want me to get it done!!!

Chhheeehooo!!

What genealogy programs are you using and what do you like about it?

Samoan History Part 1

I posted this in a past blog about this article SAMOAN HISTORY (THE WAYS OF OUR ANCESTORS) PT 1 written by Tama Samoana on January 14, 2012.

I just read over it again this morning. A good read that Tama Samoana shares about the history of Samoa.

Rootstech - Genealogy kicked up a notch!

I thoroughly enjoyed Roostech 2014. I wasn't able to attend so I watched the streaming sessions they were great! I could just feel the genealogy/tech energy from my own home!!! I am hoping to attend 2015.

Genealogy has definitely kicked it up a notch since my grandma started back in the 1930's. She started out in pen and paper. My dad was using pen and paper then he got our first computer and he was ever inputting on Personal Ancestral File and printing and printing!!

My dad was the first of his brothers and sisters to put all of his mothers' pen and paper genealogy on a genealogy software program. My dad made cd copies of his PAF and sent one to each of his brothers and sisters. I think that's pretty neat coming from my dad, who said, "I'm not having anything to do with genealogy." He caught the bug and my mom just kept feeding the fire!!!!

Since my dad is now terminally ill and cannot speak. I know that he was not done yet in his PAF. And I know he wouldn't want me to let it sit for to long. He has unlinked families, much information to input and on and on. So, I purchased a Legacy 8.0 genealogy program and planning to import his PAF and start from there.

I wish my brothers and sisters were into genealogy. Dad has a lot to do. I hope in some future time they get the 'Genealogy Bug'.

Anyhow, getting back to Rootstech. I'm going through the syllabus and finding some great information that I hope will help me out in my research. If you haven't downloaded the syllabus yet, here is the link.
